19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard courts
A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a torrid period, winning just one win at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the elite rankings and finally separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.
Now collaborating with his coach and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This represents the player's initial trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.
Victory also signifies he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various tournaments.
"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led commentators to wonder if his capacity to compete at the top level was over.
Yet the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He came back from a break down in the first set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the last five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his first ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.
He saved 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, he secured victory with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
