Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
That’s why, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look out of place, but the developments of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading the hidden lair, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in the northern region, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to form the Seekers and Strategists tables.
